Find out how we are finding homes for children in Scotland
Tamsyn Radmall shares updates, encouragement and prayer points related to Home for Good’s work across Scotland.
Recent highlights
It has been really encouraging in recent months to work with different conferences across Scotland, being able to partner with people that share our vision for mobilisng the Church to engage with fostering, adoption and supportive lodgings.
Home for Good Scotland has built a strong working relationship with The Send, a collaborative, global coalition that seeks to equip and send large numbers of young adults to ‘go’ and relationally deliver the gospel message. The Send are holding large-scale events across the UK in 2024 and 2025, with Scotland’s big event taking place in March – in Braehead Arena. One of the areas of special mission focus is around fostering and adoption, so it’s been great to participate in some of the local experience events with church leaders and other organisations. We have supported gatherings in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Dunfermline and are preparing for others in Stirling and Dundee before the main event in March.
We have also partnered with Glorious - a Christian women's conference that has been running in Aberdeen since 2013. The vision of Glorious is that women from all backgrounds, generations and denominations would gather together to KNOW who they are in Christ, to GROW in their relationship with Him and to GO and live for Jesus in their communities. The next conference will take place on 8 March 2025, when around 500 women are expected to gather in The Music Hall, Aberdeen. We will have a presence at the event and are very much looking forward to it.
Another recent highlight has been going into the Scottish Parliament to talk about our work across Scotland in an event called, ‘What kind of Nation?’ hosted by Jeremy Balfour MSP. It was an opportunity to engage with MSPs, public leaders and fellow Christians from across Scotland as the Evangelical Alliance marked its new and refreshed ‘What kind of Nation? resource. We were asked to reflect on what Scotland would look like if all Christian activity stopped for 48 hours. We showed how important the work of Home for Good is in Scotland and highlighted the great need to inspire churches to play their parts in finding new homes for children that need them.
What’s coming up?
We are working towards hosting a number of city-based vision events in the spring, bringing together Christian carers and others with an interest in our work. We know how important it is to build the networks, to remind people that they are standing with a whole community. So, do let us know if you would like to connect in with one of these events. We will look to do a hybrid of in person and online. More dates to follow.
We are gathering a roundtable of foster carers from around Scotland to feed into a report that we are presenting to The Promise in order that they can hear the voice of Christian foster carers from across Scotland. Again, if you would like to connect in with this then do email Tamsyn.
What can I be praying for?
We would love you to stand with us in prayer as we continue to work to find a home for every child who needs one in Scotland.
- Pray for The Send experience nights around Scotland, that we can engage the next generation with our vision for change.
- Pray for our foster carer roundtable, that we can hear the voices of our networks well and that The Promise would be called to action.
- As we plan our spring events to bring together carers, pray that people would come along and would feel a sense of connection and belonging.
- Pray for continued opportunities to engage with decision makers and to advocate for children and young people in the care system.
