39,000 children will come into the care system in the UK this year. Many of them will have to move miles away from everything they know and love due to a lack of local carers. We’re asking, who cares?
Every child and young person in care should be able to stay in their local area if it is safe to do so. That’s why we’re working to find local homes for children and teenagers.
Let’s stand with them. Let’s walk with them.
We’re inviting you to get outside this summer, either on your own or as a team, and cover your chosen distance as together we walk with the children and young people in care who have been placed miles away from everything and everyone they know. You can take part on your own or as part of a team! (Don’t forget to come up with a team name!)
Register now and you can set up your personalised fundraising page and receive a pair of Safe Families and Home for Good shoelaces!*
Walk, skip or run a distance you choose – in a day, a week or over the whole summer (don’t make it too easy! Set yourself a challenge...)
Share your journey with friends and family and invite them to sponsor you and make a difference in the lives of children in care.
Take photos and videos and upload them below. You’ll be in with a chance of winning a year’s supply of Jude’s ice cream!**
*Help us reduce waste by re-using your laces if you took part last year.
**Terms and conditions apply. Prize supplied by Jude’s Ice Cream, proud supporter of Safe Families and Home for Good.
1 in 5 children in care are placed over 20 miles from their home area. Walk 20 miles to reflect the journey many children make when moved far from everything familiar.
107 children enter the UK care system every day. Walk 7 miles in a week - one for each day that children are brought into care, reminding us this happens daily.
38% of children in care are aged 10–15. Walk 10 miles in solidarity with the tens of thousands of children navigating life in care during this formative stage.
Around 70,000 children live with over 52,000 fostering households. Aim for 70,000 steps across the week – that’s 10,000 a day!
Over 100,000 children are currently looked after across the UK. Walk 4 miles to symbolise the national scale of the issue and the need for a collective response across the four UK nations.
