Julian qualified as a Psychiatric Nurse in 1994 and over 10 years held a number of clinical positions as staff nurse, senior clinician and community specialist until 2004. Since that time, he has worked corporately in Human Resources and Organisational Development roles for the health and social care system locally and nationally often holding a portfolio of roles.

Julian formally retired from the NHS in the spring of 2020 but has continued
to work as a leadership consultant and independent chair for a number of national health and social care organisations whilst completing the final year of a Master's Degree in Executive Leadership and Management.

‘It is an honour to assume the role of Chair for Safe Families and Home for Good.

I take on the role of Chair confident that the merger into Safe Families and Home for Good has set infinite possibilities for a large national charity to respond and discern the direction of our Heavenly Father as we seek to serve children and families across the UK.

As an adopter, a birth parent and foster carer along with my wife Fiona, I have experienced the highs and the lows, the joy and the trauma, of these choices. Above all, I am passionate about seeking the best for each child and every family in any situation. As I serve as Chair, this will be where my heart remains.

In my role as Chair, I will work in collaboration with our Trustees, co-CEOs and Senior Leadership Team to ensure that Safe Families and Home for Good is well led, well governed, and that finances are ordered and transparent. All of this to be done respectfully, prayerfully and with humility.’

Julian will work closely with the Trustees, co-CEOs Kat and Tarn, and the Senior Leadership Team to ensure strong governance, and a faith-driven vision. leading with humility, collaboration, and prayer.

Safe Families and Home for Good operates with a Board of Trustees who have the legal responsibility for the charity, approving the policies, strategy, and annual budget. The Trust Board appoints the Chief Executive who reports to the Board Chair. The charity is run on a day-to-day basis by co-CEOs Kat and Tarn and a Senior Leadership Team who are full time employees.

The Trust Board meets quarterly with the Chief Executive in attendance.
