Finding 50 Homes in Wiltshire

Could you share this video in your church to help raise awareness of the need across Wiltshire?

Wiltshire Council needs more foster carers.

We believe that the church community is ideally placed to meet this need. In the next year we want to find 50 new foster homes from the church community in Wiltshire, so children and young people can find stable and loving homes close to their schools, friends and wider support networks. This is key to enable children and young people to thrive.

Why

In 2017-18, 590 children and young people spent time in care in Wiltshire. Some came into care for the first time, the majority due to neglect or abuse.

38 of these children were unaccompanied asylum-seeking children and Wiltshire is committed to ensuring that children who arrive in the UK fleeing conflict or persecution can be safe and thrive in the county.

Whatever their circumstances, every single one of these children and young people will have experienced trauma and loss, and is in need of a safe, stable and loving home in Wiltshire.

Home for Good and Wiltshire Council are striving to increase the number of foster homes across the the county so children can stay close to their schools, friends, and family and don't have to travel long distances to see them, or access education.

We want to see this change – and we believe that the Church in Wiltshire can be part of making that happen.

How

Home for Good are working to find 50 new foster carers for Wiltshire Council.

We are calling on all Christians across the county to ask whether they can be part of the answer.

Will you foster?

Will you put yourself forward to be approved to open your home to a child or siblings in need? This could be for a few days, weeks, months or even years. It will not be easy, but for such vulnerable children, the love, care and security you offer could make all the difference.

Will you support a carer from your church community?

Will you enable someone else to foster by committing to support an individual or family in your church, becoming a ‘foster auntie or uncle’ so that they can step forward and be assured that you will help them to meet the challenges of caring?

Will you make your church a place of welcome for vulnerable children and the families who care for them?

Will you host a Foundations Course, have a Home for Good speaker, or set up a stay and play support group or even consider becoming a Home for Good champion? Could your church make the most of our Mother's Day resources or maybe host a Home for Good meal? Will you encourage your church to review its policies and procedures to make sure that they account for some of the challenges that looked after children face?
