Praying during the 2024 General Election

At Home for Good and Safe Families, we believe in the power of prayer to bring about change. We also believe in taking action to ensure children’s social care and family support are on the agenda of those in positions of power and influence. That’s why our general election campaign enables you to write to the candidates standing for election in your constituency, urging candidates to make the needs of children and families a priority if elected.

As voting day for the general election approaches, we recognise the importance of praying for party leaders and local candidates standing for election. Their decisions and actions will shape the future of our nation. Equally important is praying for children in care, families in crisis, and those experiencing acute loneliness, whose needs must be heard and addressed.

As we approach the upcoming general election, we encourage you to pray for the following four areas:

1. Party Leaders: Pray for wisdom, integrity, and compassion as they announce policies and make decisions that may impact our nation.

2. Local Candidates: Pray for a commitment to serve their communities, with a focus on listening to and understanding the needs of their constituents.

3. Children in Care: Pray for their well-being, and for more safe, stable, and nurturing homes where children in care can flourish.

4. Families in Crisis and those experiencing Acute Loneliness: Pray for comfort, peace, and the provision of support at the right time.

Thank you for standing with us and for praying for these four areas. We understand that some people find it easier to pray written prayers. Here are four prayers you may wish to use:

A Prayer for Party Leaders

Heavenly Father, we lift up the leaders of each political party in the UK. We pray for wisdom and discernment as they guide their parties and make decisions that affect our nation. Grant them integrity, compassion, and a heart for justice. Surround them with wise counsellors and give them the courage to do what is right for children in care and families in crisis. Amen.

A Prayer for Candidates Standing for Election

Lord Jesus, we pray for every candidate standing for election. We ask that you be with them as they campaign in their local communities. Help them to be honest and transparent with those they speak to. Protect them from harm and grant them strength and resilience during this demanding time. Let your peace rest upon them and their families. May those who are elected be individuals of integrity who seek to serve with humility. Amen.

A Prayer for Children in Care

Gracious Father, we bring before you children in care whose lives depend on the decisions made by MPs. You know each child's story, their joys, and their struggles. We pray for their wellbeing, and future. Please raise up leaders who will prioritise the needs of children in care, making sure they receive the care and love they need to thrive. Surround them with caring and compassionate caregivers. Amen.

A Prayer for Families in Crisis and those experiencing Acute Loneliness

Merciful God, we pray for families in crisis. You know the challenges they face and the burdens they carry. We ask that you bring peace, provision, and healing to those in need. Strengthen them to overcome their difficulties and surround them with a supportive community. Raise up leaders who will implement policies that provide real help and support for these families. Amen.
